Day 2 of the vETskillinG Project in Dordrecht: Collaborating on Citizen Science and Climate Awareness

On the second day of the vETskillinG Project in Dordrecht, the focus is on citizen science and raising climate awareness. Today, the students will engage in practical work by measuring environmental factors such as temperature, humidity, and CO2 levels. Through these measurements, they will gain insight into how their surroundings are being affected by climate change.

The project challenges students to assemble measurement instruments. The collected data is transmitted via LoRaWAN technology and displayed on a dashboard. This data serves as a foundation for creating plans that contribute to improving local climate conditions through citizen science. In this way, students not only develop technical skills but also awareness of how to actively contribute to a more sustainable future.

The day is divided into two parts. In the morning session, students explore the various components of the measuring equipment. The focus is on building a weather station, where collaboration is key. Each student brings their own expertise, and by working together effectively, they create a functional and usable product. Teachers are present to provide support as needed, but the initiative lies with the students themselves.

During lunch and free time, students can relax and share their experiences. These moments contribute significantly to a positive group atmosphere and strengthen teamwork, which in turn benefits the success of the project.

The VETskilling Project in Dordrecht continues to be an inspiring experience for everyone, aiming not only to develop technical knowledge but also to contribute consciously to solutions for climate change.
